Royal Marines Open Champs

A great effort from the boys who travelled to the Royal Marines Commandos Training Center, Exmouth!

The event was in aid of the Royal Marines Charity and was run in a friendly but very competitive spirit with one weight category having players ranging from orange belt through to 4th Dan. A huge thanks to Frankie and Rob from the Royal Marines for organising this event!

Logan and Tom entered both the ‘junior’ (17 to 21 year olds) event as well as the seniors resulting in them having 10 fights each throughout the day. Tom came away with a Bronze from both age group and Logan won the silver in the juniors and a bronze in the juniors.

Logan’s Silver was well earnt in a senior section that included clubmate Ethan and the 2014 Commonwealth Champion, Danny Williams. Great fighting from both, with all their wins scoring Ippon and a great experience to fight a top level competitor in a competition.

Ethan added 30 Dan grading points to his tally by beating 3 Dan grades and so is very close to qualifying for his 2nd Dan. Logan also gain his first points towards his 2nd Dan – impressive having only recently become a black belt!

Nathan and Roy gained great competition experience in a tough U100kg section. Nathan took his first step in gaining points towards his 1st Dan as well as taking the opportunity to pass his 1st Dan theory by skillfully demonstrating all the required techniques. Thanks goes to Ethan for stepping in as his Uke!

Well done boys!!
